Hailing from Mexico and Central America, the Mexican fleabane, Erigeron karvinskianus is a remarkably tough and adaptable plant that thrives in sunny or lightly shaded spots. The flowers can be mistaken for daisies, but the flowering is much more profuse and the flowers will turn a delightful pink as they mature. The plant is reasonably drought tolerant and has the engaging habit of sowing itself in paving or in gravel. The plant is hardy in most winters and can relied upon to give several years of colour. This plant has received the Award of Garden Merit (AGM) from the Royal Horticultural Society.
It is a great plant for summer containers, its spreading habit makes it a useful subject for flowing over the edges in containers, but it is equally at home in the front of borders growing amongst other low plants. It associates very well with alpines.
Bees and other pollinators love the plentiful flowers, it really is a garden ‘must have’.
